Texas Myths That Are Only Kinda True

Texas has its share of myths and legends, many of which we remember from childhood. Though none of these are true, there is some basis in reality.

4. Ima and Ura Hogg

Many of us have heard the story of the Texas Governor Hogg, who wanted to be silly and name his twin daughters Ima and Ura Hogg. Well, it is true. We did have a Governor Jim Hogg, though he didn’t have two daughters. He only had one, which he named Ima. As goofy as her name sounds, Miss Hogg was a well known philanthropist and long time historian. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and donated vast amounts of money to preservation of Texas history.

In fact, if you’re interested in the work Miss Hogg was committed to, you can see a collection of it at the Bob Bullock Museum in Austin, Texas this summer. Starting July 13th through October 6th you can view antique Texas furniture Miss Hogg was integral in preserving.
